Reinstate Cal Poly Swimming & Diving
Since 1940, Cal Poly Swimming & Diving has cultivated champions – including 90 All-Americans in the pool, countless Scholar-Athletes in the classroom, and thousands of hard-working individuals making valuable contributions to their workplaces and communities. On March 7, 2025, Cal Poly discontinued the program. This decision was not made due to the team’s lack of success or student interest, but rather due to “an unfortunate reality given the approved NCAA House settlement, state budget and the tenuous situation moving forward for both the state and the NCAA.”
The Mustang Swim & Dive Alumni Organization is committed to reinstating Cal Poly Swimming and Diving and ensuring its continuance in perpetuity by fundraising to build a program-sustaining $15.5M endowment. To achieve this goal, the Mustang Swim & Dive Alumni Organization seeks to develop a broad coalition of alumni from across the decades, student-athlete parents, community supporters, and friends of the program.
The Ripple Effect
This isn’t just a Cal Poly issue. The loss of a high-performing collegiate D1 Swim & Dive program has ripple effects throughout the national swimming and diving community — at a time when non-revenue generating college sports programs are at risk, and Olympic hopefuls and elite athletes are already facing fewer opportunities to develop at the highest levels. The Cal Poly Swim And Dive Alumni Organization is committed to supporting a long-term effort to reinstate the program and preserve opportunities for future student-athletes.
